Fellow San Franciscans, As we debate about how much our sign on bonus is, or worrying that our six figure salary is too low, there are hundreds of homeless people on the streets, local businesses shutting down, and no arts or culture can survive. In a city that has been dominated by tech, how do you, or how can we make a difference and help support the community we live in?
Shop at farmer market, pay double for bread and eggs than from Trader Joe’s. I also gave money to loitering people when they asked if they could have some of my cash 😑
There are people who don’t even pay tax and they’re way way wealthier.
One of them is our President.
If only our politicians cared to close the loopholes used by people like our president. Pro tip: they won’t, because they use them as well
The best way to help is for us to move away. Or share your space with an artist or teacher and offer them BMR rent.
planning to move out
Where to?
Ugh not sure yet Somewhere with casual wlb, comfortable TC, not boring, and more white guys. Charlotte, Chicago, Denver, really too many to list still. I need to map all those variables and intersect them
I don’t live or work in SF but imho the only way to truly make a difference is if you invest your time, energy and money to change the political class that has ruined your city. It’s not just a money/tech/income inequality problem although that plays a role as well. It’s by and large a policy problem. Mentally ill people need to get treatment and help. For some that would mean getting institutionalized. But it’s the humane & compassionate thing to do. Leaving them on the streets in their own filth does not equal compassion. Something needs to change about what police should do about drug addicts shooting up in broad daylight and littering the streets with needles. Zoning laws have to be changed to allow more high density housing and add mandatory low income housing units with each new building. This is not a Democrat vs Republican thing. You need to start a grassroots movement, take your city back and fix the problems. If it’s anything like Seattle where we spend more than 50k per homeless person per year just to keep them homeless you’ll have enough money to do what’s right once you throw out the clowns running the city now.
I think if more was invested in high rises and transit it would help the issue.
helping gentrify it and making it a more desirable place to live

Don’t allow property owners to vote and shut down all developments that increase the supply of housing significantly. Why tract homes created in the tech boom of the 1800s are so special they prevent us from getting people off the street is a big mystery

we already pay enough taxes on the three figure salaries that they turn to 2 figures by the time they reach the account, I wish america could stop spending those dollars on making bombs and nukes for around 700 billion dollars and use that to uplift these helpless people
America won’t have $700bn if not for the fear of our war machine that still makes the world use us as their reserve currency, despite being $20 trillion in debt.
@Google that's a stupid myth not justified by facts. American military has nothing to do with dollars being reserve currency.
