Hello, Tesla owners! Am thinking of buying Model Y later this year. While most of the time I think I would be charging in office where it’s free, I wanted to understand the cost of charging at supercharger and at home. How much typically does it cost to fully charge at Supercharger? Am trying to weigh in annual cost of charging vs gas if I were to go with a mild hybrid option like Toyota Crown Signia that is coming out later this year. TC: 250K
Superchargers are like around $15. Charging at home is way cheaper and convenient.
Toyota Crown is not a mild hybrid. Mild hybrid is just glorified auto stop start. Full hybrid can propel at low speeds on electric only.
Isn’t the term full hybrid reserved for plugins?
🤮
I pay $20 each month for charging at my apartment. My apartment assigned a ChargePoint station and I just pay the monthly $20 fee 🤷🏻♀️
A- Whatever you are paying per kWh (Check your bill) B- Miles you drive every month Your cost per month = A*B/3. Assuming you will average 3 miles per kWh.
$25+ for full charge at home, $70+ for superchargers. It’s about 30-50% vs gas charging at home and same if you use superchargers. Savings are overestimated. If you drive 10k miles a year you save like 1k. Accounting for insurance increases and car registration tax increase for EV, it’s a wash.
I bought Tesla assuming it’s good for planet, but later I learned that I have to drive 100k miles to break even the carbon footprint of EV vs Gas car. I will recommend a hybrid. My Model Y is 84kwh, at home you can do the math. Consider the range is 2 to 2.5 miles per kWh. Non Tesla supercharger are expensive and will cost 35-55 cents per kWh.
In Bay Area?
Where are you getting 100k? This says worst case (if you are getting the dirtiest kind of energy) it is 68k and could be under 30k. https://news.harvard.edu/gazette/story/2023/08/when-buying-an-ev-increases-your-carbon-footprint/
