I am considering an offer from vmware. The comp details are as below, Base: 150k Rsu: 100k over 4 years Sign on: 10k The position offered is MTS-3 with the SDDCaaS team. I have 5 years of experience and currently SE-2 at microsoft. Looking at my current comp, this offer is just a small bump in salary. Base is just a little higher than my current base(I work in SVC of Microsoft). So it's only RSU's that make the difference as my on hire RSU'S from Microsoft (which were significant) have vested completely and now I only have some RSU'S left (from annual reviews), which are worth around 6-7 K per year. Recruiter says this is the best they can do. I am also stuck in team matching phase of Google (have not passed HC yet, recruiter said team matching needs to happen before HC) for about 2.5 months now. Not sure what to do. Wait for Google? Google recruiter said he will contact me in August and chances of finding a team before that are very slim. And I am not even sure if situation is going to change after August. Accept the vmware offer? I have already rejected Oracle BMCs offer for comp reason. And even though I have no issues with my current team at microsoft, I need a change now. What do you think of this offer? When they say this is their best offer, how true is that? Has anyone successfully negotiated after the recruiter said something similar? Any tips on negotiation?
Turn it down. Expect at least 25% bump in comp if money is the reason to move. This is typically the cost of leaving your comfort zone.
Yeah, I would be fine with 20% but this is just about 10% right now.
It's more than 10% if you account rsu, right? Do you know how much in stock refresh you can expect there?
Nope, it's 10%, well 12% to be exact, on total comp (not including other benefits such as 401k, ESPP which I believe are similar at both of these companies). I am not sure about refreshers though, they are non existent at MS. And AFAIK it depends on the team at vmware. Vmware people can shed more light on this?
Well if you have no RSUs from Msft then this is a big bump. Offer to forgo the signing bonus for 40K more in RSUs. That takes the total comp to 185K per year. That's worth it to move
Well I do have "some" RSU'S from Microsoft from annual reviews, worth around 6-7 K per year. So the difference in comp is about 18k per year. I am not sure if that bump is worth the move. I do like the idea of forgoing the signing bonus, but I would prefer the increase in base. Can you talk about stock refresh at vmware please?
You wrote before "RSU'S from Microsoft have vested completely." Don't waste our time if you cannot fully articulate.
don't go. plus you will get some raise, rsu in September, right? so the difference in comps will be almost zero?
Yes, I am leaning towards just waiting now for that. And then probably interview again after September.
I think it is really low. I am being offered from mid size bay area company: 160k base, 170k stocks and no joining bonus with 15% cash bonus every year. It is 25% over my current comp. But I want something better with big joining bonus. Don't hurry in making decision. Take ur time. I just have 2 years of experience.
That is a very good offer. Mind telling me which company this is? :) You are right, I do feel this is low. I think I should interview more, though I am already worn out. Thinking of taking a break now and restart interviewing in September.
how long have you been interviewing?
Id not recommend VMWare as their bussiness proposition is diminishing year over year. But you work at Microsoft. So go for it.
good offer
Maybe for you... sounds like a shit offer
Did you interview at Uber?
What was the Oracle numbers? I thought they pay really well.
They down leveled me :(
Downleveled with IC2?
