The product leadership just hired an ex-Amazon product manager and assigned to my team. I have heard horror stories about how ex-Amazon folks ruin the culture of their next teams by bringing in the same “dog eat dog” culture of Amazon. My team is amazing. We all help each other, there is camaraderie. I enjoy being part of my team and don’t want the culture to be ruined. How to protect my team? What to watch out for? #culture
What in the world makes you believe everyone gets infected by that culture? Moreover, what makes you believe they cannot leave it behind? Calm down and carry on
Going by the probability of average case scenario. It would be a best case scenario if they are not tainted by that culture. But average case scenario is more likely to happen than best case scenario.
Ever consider that maybe they left because they didn't like the culture?
Over dramatic much ? Give the guy a chance and stop judging people you haven’t even met yet.
OP wants to coast and is scared that they'll need to work
@atlassian my team is all good performers. The part I enjoy is to put team’s needs above self. Helping each other selflessly. Backing and protecting each other. I am worried that will be gone with Amazon “throwing everyone under the bus” culture.
Are you team lead or manager? Setup an initial call and indirectly explain the working culture if you team
The best thing you can do is pushback on that culture when it’s being demonstrated in your interactions with this manager whether in face to face convos or team meetings
Run
The ship has sailed, hope it burns quick , slow burns are death by thousand cuts
same thing happened at netflix, we hired Amazon SWEs who were not only mediocre but super rude. One of them said it’s thick skin. Thankfully we exited them in a year. Shitty company and culture
Calm the F down
Lol 😂 if you are so afraid that someone new in your team has the skills to change your culture, then you really need to raise your bat and get better coworkers, may be it’s high team you actually learn from this Amazon person.
This is such a weird take. It takes just 1 person to ruin a great team. How much poison do you think it takes to poison a well. Look at Musk at Twitter.
Poor example, musk is owner who can stop twitter at his own whim. But a product manager does not have that power. How can one person ruin the team if it really has strong culture or bonding, may be that so called bonding or helping each other is just laziness which that 1 person does not agree to. Having said that I am no fan of amazon culture neither amazoninans but the fear of OP is so cringe and old school.
