Hello Everyone, I got offered an internal role at Meta via Meta internal transfer. I also have another offer from Google. I work from Zurich meta and will transfer to meta Menlo park if I get the meta role. Disclaimer - the meta role and team is great. But the internal transfer number is not good though it could grow of course. Meta US 423 TC - no new RSU or sign on. Can change significantly with US RSU. But no RSU or sign on. Google US 540 - with new RSU and sign on Google and twitter offers are in SF and MV - USA. USA citizen. I’m transferring from Switzerland to Menlo Park. Software engineering manager I just recently learned that I will not get a new RSU package as part of my new compensation in Menlo Park. I will only get higher base. But no new RSUs or sign on from meta because according to recurring it’s internal transfer. I will get a full package from Google - base, stocks, and sign on. I honestly want meta role as I know the team very much and there great opportunity to grow. So the meta news of no new RSU or sign on is very shocking and disappointing. I want to stay at meta but only if I get new US RSU. Any advice - please? Can use Google and Square offers to negotiate with Meta? Ask them to add the RSU and sign on as standard for all new employees for the role?
Ask Meta to match Google and if not then take Google
Meta doesn’t match external offers as a matter of policy.
And that’s what’s really disappointing here It’s fine if they don’t match. But can they consider the Google offer at the very least. Can the compensation team take the Google offer into consideration?
Go google. Better WLB, higher pay, and no PERM issues Also check internal HR pages. Meta doesn’t match external offers as a matter of policy. So unless you’re a highly valued E7/E8 I doubt they’ll make an exception.
Go with Meta. Maybe try negotiating, but there’s a lot more risk in jumping to Google compared to an internal team that you already know.
Agree 💯 and regret my decision not to go with my gut on this. Now regretting it. Uncertainty comes at a cost. Keep your good team and manager. You never know if you'll luck out again. I should have stayed with Meta. In my experience at G so far, WLB is a myth, and we grind hard, with no days off. Manager support nonexistent in my org.
tsytg You can try changing teams right? Is it not that easy?
Take Google. We are often afraid to venture into unknown. But unknown is often a better path. In the worst case, you can come back to Meta although I think there wouldn’t be a need once you start at Google
Google has the same policy w/internal transfers that you are running into, not granting new base RSUs. There’s always a bit of anxiety switching to new teams, but the culture at Google is great and if comp, location, career goals all match it sounds like a good idea.
Can you please share your level and yoe and google offer breakdown? Is that offer stocks averaged over 4 years or just year 1 for google? Also do you have h1b or citizenship? How are you coming to the us with google?
Interested in those details as well
I have seen Twitter offer extremely high TC for the very few positions they are hiring as all hiring now are for critical roles or backfill of key people leaving
Are you getting EB1 green card sponsorship with meta? If so, go for meta,if you aren’t or if you aren’t interested, then go to google.
What's your level and current TC at Meta in Zurich?
Is Google / Twitter offer in US or Zurich? Meta unfortunately has a strict policy against matching external offers so it won’t be possible. :(
In the states
you might want to check if you’ll get Additional Equities as part of adjusting your comp with other folks at the same level. I have heard this happen for fast promos but I don’t know about country change. If that’s not in scope, I’d say go to Google then boomerang back to Meta to get a leveled compensation.
