Help me deciding on joining oracle

Hey! I have few questions for you. I just got an offer for Sr SDE at oracle (300k total comp). Currently I'm a SDE II at amazon at 225k total comp. I think I'm one year away of being senior (manager said i deserve it but need some more data). My team at amazon is pretty cool. The project at Oracle cloud is way more interesting (a lot less ops brand new project...). My questions are: 1/ moving from sde ii at amazon to oracle as senior does it feels like a lateral move or like a good opportunity 2/ is oracle a good company for my resume? If not does it hurt a lot my career? 3/ what are the benefits at oracle cloud? I didn't had time to visit anything, how is the office location? 4/ is senior at oracle == senior at Microsoft? And same for amazon? Wondering as i might move back to amazon or Microsoft later on. Thanks folks!

I didn't know travel back in time was possible. Let us know how the Triassic period is if you end up making the time warp.

Lol. Btw what is workday?

Salesforce XJWx82 Feb 6, 2017

I think it's just a spread sheet to log hours, boring stuff

I also have senior engineer offer from Oracle, but comp is way less than you. May I have a private chat with you?

Absolutely

depends on the team. which team r u gonna in

Oracle SafraMess Feb 6, 2017

300k?!?!?! That's so rare at oracle. How much is base salary and rsus? One bad thing about oracle is that when you get in, you won't get good pay raises Maybe good rsus if you are considered valuable

It is possible in oracle cloud teams in Seattle. Oracle has been paying very high salary to get oracle cloud IAAS compete against Amazon. Oracle has pitched couple of Amazon folks for cloud in Seattle

Oracle Wagley Feb 12, 2017

Oracle probably counts bonus in there which tgere is no chance he will get

Oracle OCloud Feb 6, 2017

Grab this.. Cloud is the only group growing in Oracle.. Everyone from C-Suite to Leadership are talking only Cloud.. also $300k for senior is awesome number

Microsoft talespin Feb 7, 2017

every team in Oracle nowadays is "cloud" or "as a service" .. I would absolutely stay away from any team that has an offshore team. you would end up working 24 hours

Are u getting this job in Seattle location? If yes take it. For ur position: tell me which IC level r u getting. U should be getting either IC level 4 or 5. If it is IC level 5 then take the offer. For IC level 4,is principal member of technical staff... level 4 is still decent. U can become manager after that as well. Do not compromise on IC level 3. Oracle for cloud will be decent on ur resume and how oracle cloud will do depend on engineers like you. It has potential to go up but only engineers can make it happen. Oracle cloud perks: u r getting really good salary, which hardly other teams get. Overall perks r quite decent and rest ur salary is awesome for oracle. You shouldn't worry abt perks.

Amazon Makdin OP Feb 6, 2017

Apparently it is IC4. Does that mean senior or principal? How is it compare to othrr company like amazon or msft? Thanks

Oracle derpyderp Feb 6, 2017

principal, ic3 is senior

Oracle bimbam Feb 6, 2017

the guys in seattle are doing cool stuff, and it's a good group with lot of talent poached from amazon/google/microsoft cloud teams, it's rapidly growing and there is opportunity to make a more significant contribution than in a more established company in that space

Oracle crooooook Feb 6, 2017

oracle in your resume doesnt hurt. i got calls from all big names, though i dint convert as u can see

Amazon Makdin OP Feb 6, 2017

Excellent

Oracle d4qp Feb 6, 2017

If it's IaaS or PaaS, you may have a good run. We seem to be serious about competing in that space. If it is SaaS (Fusion Applications), run away as fast as you can. That product is horrible and customers hate it. I can't speak about any of the M&A products and services (NetSuite, RightNow, etc.).

Oracle Aget30 Feb 6, 2017

+1

Amazon Makdin OP Feb 6, 2017

It is for IaaS!

Amazon Makdin OP Feb 6, 2017

Lol just the fact you are helpful and now aggressive about it make me want to join.
