New grad here, graduating in May. Have to choose one of these offers soon, I’ve been plotting them against each other and trying to get them to up their offers as much as I could. I like the MSFT work-life balance from what I’ve heard and also seen during the internship. But the pay is pretty bad, and they probably won’t budge more. Amazon is clearly known to be toxic. Also note that the Amazon stock is 200k/4 years which doesn’t actually equate to 50k/year (as the offer calculation below assumes). Amazon is in Seattle, rest all are in Bay Area. Between Meta and Google — what is my best bet? (I’m on F-1 OPT, if that matters) TC 0, YoE 0
Meta is better than Google. Google lays off people often for recent months and Sundar promised that they will continue do it
Google. 1. Google pays higher in cash. 2. Stock feels as better priced (do your own valuation) 3. Google engineers talk more about their better work life balance compared to Meta. Though my sample size is smaller. 4. Good food. If you want protection from layoffs, look somewhere else. Like ASML. Everyone else has blood on their hands and they would do it again if situation arises.
Meta seems like a better company then Google to join at this point. I don’t feel as good about G culture or future. The pay is close enough I feel you can choose based on intangibles. (Neither are shining stars but I’d rank Meta > G on the intangibles)
What did you do masters in and where?
Do you have prior experience?
CS. Not saying where, might get doxed.
Do you have a PhD? How did you get an L5 offer?
Meta > Google if you're prioritizing $ in the longer term. Google for WLB Only small case to be made for Amazon is that SDE make more than DS. Your decision to make if youll enjoy SDE work more than DS. And/or whether you can jump between the two in the future.
Lol, I won't even keep Microsoft in the option!
This is definitely troll post! How one can get L5 right after graduation lol unless it’s Phd or prior experience that’s not mentioned here. Btw stay away from AMZ super toxic going through focus here myself.
I have a masters degree. I worked on LLM related projects and my research / skills are in high demand. Or at least that’s what I think.
Seems like, you have already accepted the Microsoft offer, or thats your internship id? with which you are logged in, switch to google bro
