I am just curious about which other companies pay at the higher end of the spectrum for tech roles in India. I am aware about Tower Research, but from what I have heard, the work pressure is insane over there. On the other hand companies like Microsoft have comparatively much lower pay but with a great wlb. This might be living inside a bubble effect, but I feel Shaw has an amazing pay and has pretty decent work life balance too. I agree the tech being used is not very advanced and leans mostly on the financial side, but we get almost complete ownership of the product from the start. Teams are very very small and hence everyone needs to know end to end of the product. Please let me know if I am unaware of some other companies with a great pay and decent wlb. Current TC: Base 30-34 + Variable Year end bonus (range 2.5-10). YOE: ~1.5 years
I believe they manufacture tires actually
don't think good wlb in Microsoft IDC now a days. it's becoming like amazon slowly
Heard a different story from my peers. They told their work is pretty chill. Might be varying from team to team.
It is not as bad as Amazon, but yes there is some work pressure. Have friends in Azure and M365, both manage with 40 hours work week.
How much variable bonus did you get this year ? Also why didn't you add LTI Component in your salary , its as good as base (assuming you joined as a Newgrad) .

I quit DE Shaw last year, there is definitely more pay outside. DE pays good for initial years and creates an impression that this TC is unmatchable. There arebmany ex de shaw employees in Amazon, Google, Microsoft where work plus the pay both are better than Shaw. Tower Research is decent, but again all work you do there is internal and you don't make products that scale, that limits you as a software personnel. Equity outweighs the bonuses at DE Shaw by a big margin.
This was insightful. I talked with a few microsoft guys and they were eager to switch company because of less ownership and low pay. I guess it again varies across teams.
Less ownership, yes. In most firms with diversified products, like msft, google, amazon there will be less ownership. They operate in creating an ecosystem where each product caters to global audience with interaction with other products of same company, in this the ownership and impact can appear to be lesser than startups or smaller firms, but ironically those startups want to be like Amazon/google π Low pay is a very comparative thing, ABC pays more than 99.8 percent of other tech firms yet the employees will say we are paid lesser than those .2 percent π
Quants at JPM, GS and MS are paid very well, isn't a pure tech role though.

Is the TC comparable with Shaw for the YOE mentioned? Can you share a few details ?
No clue about your company.
