Tech is dead. Choose a different career
Hello blind community, This is my first ever blind post. I need your help in evaluating offers. I currently hold offers from JPMC and Nomura. JPMC TC : 30 lpa Fixed : 27 Variable approx : 10- 20 % of fixed depending on performance Advantage with jp is, only 10 mins commute and anybody facing Mumbai traffic knows this is a huge plus. Wfo is three times a week. Nomura TC : 35 lpa Fixed : 32 Variable approx: 20-30% of fixed depending on performance. A huge con for this is the location it will take 3 hours commute. Wfo is twice a week. Role for both is same senior software engineer similar to an sde2. Yoe :5 years Current tc : 18 lpa Fixed : 14 Variable:4 Location: Mumbai, India Current jp and nomura employees your advice will be really appreciated in terms of work culture, growth and tech stack etc . Others are also welcome to comment but please be kind with your words. Also, do you think I am being underpaid ? #software #swe #engineering #jobs #switch #help #offer #evaluation #tech
I advise you to do a bit of research around the team and nature of the project+manager at both places. Nevertheless time saved in travelling is always a peach of mind and makes a huge difference in your personal life, learnings, growth.
Hi thank you for your advice.. I did reach out to PPL from jp but I don't know anyone from nomura. Mostly I've heard good things about jp regarding wlb but have no clue about nomura.
I'm assuming it might not take 3 hours if you use the metro? That would mean quite a few jumps but is in general faster (again, depends on whether you live close by to the only functional metro in the city) I concur with one of the posts here that you should decide on the basis of project and manager, and prospect of progress. For your YoE, it'll be harder to switch on exponentially better TC to fellow investment banks, and you may find yourself in a loop where you're not liking the work. Also, if travel time cannot be cut, grind LC and the like during travel. I've gotten used to that now.
Hi, so I reached out to a guy staying in my apartment complex and he mentioned it takes 3-4 hours of traveling...and for me metro won't be of much help either... How is the work @Nomura? What are you'll mostly working on? And what about wlb?
Time is also valuable. You will lose around 2.5 hours everyday. That's catastrophic loss
I know.. Exactly the reason for my confusion otherwise in terms of CTC nomura is way better
