Tech bros always complain about how SF homelessness, dirty streets, expensiveness, lefty politics, etc. But when I think about my experiences in NYC, those things I mentioned don't seem much different. I get SF isn't the best city but I don't get why the same people who complain about those things are the same ppl who want to move to NYC... Anyone actually lived in NYC care to chime in?
Moved from SF to NYC 4 months ago. I was happy to meet many people, especially girls, who were leaning moderate after a long time. The other things you mentioned are also here, but to a lesser extent. E.g. NYC trains are a lot cleaner than SF, and the homeless are fewer. And besides, NYC in general has a lot, lot more to offer than SF. My 2 cents.
There are a ton of girls in nyc. That’s the difference. For some weird reason all these extremely attractive women want to live in nyc. A lot of them are foreigners or didn’t go to college. SF girls are usually highly educated
Nyc is like 75% cleaner and safer than SF
NYC is like a spotless clean room compared to SF
in New York, far fewer people sleep outside on the streets. That's partly because of the state's “right to shelter” law, which requires NYC to provide emergency shelter to every unhoused person who qualifies.
Always thought it was weather related. Learn something new every day. !
Don’t live in either of these. Blue cities are getting worse day by day
If I were you, I’d live in a red state city like Austin, Atlanta, Houston, Dallas, or Miami. The women are beautiful and there’s far fewer bums on the street. NYC women are beautiful as well but far too strong and career oriented.
I live in NYC. It’s rough and tough but it always has been. Issue is SF is a city of “peace loving easy going” people. NYC has always been a place where people will tell you to “fuck yourself and get out of my way” Because of that it attracts a different person and a different type of grit. That being said, because of that attitude differential people tolerate far far less bullshit. If you’re homeless and in peoples way and causing problems someone is going to kick you, whereas in SF people are probably going to try and give you flowers. Obviously I’m being hyperbolic though but you get my point. So it’s not that NYC is that much better, it definitely is better than SF when it comes to homelessness and crime, not necessarily cleanliness though, but it’s more about the type of person that can live in this city. Additionally NYC has been through dark dark days. The 70s crime wave and that’s because I think NYers generally are able to “put their foot down” and recognize when progressive policies goes to far and starts to intrude in peoples lives in a deleterious way. Hopefully that makes sense?
Like electing Giuliani as mayor and have him run wild the popo with their Street Crimes Unit and “sweep the parks” kick out homeless drive, yup!
“Tell me you know nothing about crime in NYC pre-Giuliani at SDNY and mayor without telling me you know nothing about crime in NYC pre-Giuliani at SDNY and mayor”
