Hello blind people! I wanted to share my Amazon interview experience and see if others have similar stories from the past. For context I have about 4-5 yoe and I was interviewing for a senior mle role. I have interviewed at a ton of places before but it was my first time with Amazon. Everybody who interviewed me from the hiring team were generally nice and polite. But the external team interview was a nightmare. So the guy who was supposed to interview doesn't show up and the shadow interviewer takes over. He seemed disinterested right from the start. After about 20 minutes into behavior questions he asks a coding problem. It's a standard leetcode problem about an alien dictionary. But the problem was badly described with clearly wrong examples. We had a bit of back and forth and then he devolved into a. Read the problem description, b. You are not getting it my man, c. Hysterical laughter I have honestly never felt as bad as this before. I don't know if he was right or not and I don't care at this point. But what I do know is that he was worse and lacked respect/empathy for others. I thanked him, told him I am done and cut the call short by about 20 minutes. I can't imagine this happening at any other company in the bay area and I'm still in a bit of a shock. Thoughts? Comments? Anyone else have similar experiences?
this could be an outlier incident as i interview for Amazon and making the candidate comfortable and respected is of very high priority. please give this feedback to your recruiter. 🙏
That is a lie. As someone who has completed 200+ interviews. Plus interviewed 3 times personally inside of Amazon. I know that many bar raisers or other interviewers either don’t want to do the interviews (don’t show up). Or are at the interview to make others feel inferior. Typically during each loop you have 1 person who tries to be the hard ass. It’s not a good look and isn’t always the case but it definitely happens and has happened to me, and each time I walk away saying i would refuse any offer from the team.
Thanks I mailed them. I wish I could do more after having spent 8-9 hours in the interview process
Bro it is good to experience this at the interview, otherwise you will hate yourself if you ever join the company. Just imagine you will need to work with this type of Amazonian every hour (20hours/day)
Good for you for ending the interview early and protecting your dignity. Fuck that piece of shit. You don't want to work with people like him anyway.
Ok, so you had one bad interview. People have bad days and there are shitty ppl in all companies.Stop crying and move fwd.
You sound like the dbag who interviewed OP. Pathetic.
Having a bad day is not an excuse to treat people like that. Some Amazon interviewers feel so powerful just because they work at Amazon and are in front of someone that doesn’t. It happened to me as well and I regret not taking that as a signal of how this place is…
Why the fuck you going from Google to Amazon?
l6 can pay well (500k)
You will end up using that money on therapy… @OP, stay at Google and enjoy your life
Hahaha, when I interviewed and got rejected by Amazon, I experienced similar interview. Did not post about it because I don’t belong to FAANG and if I said anything, people will say, you are salty because you did not make it. You have the luxury to complain😅
You are salty because you didn't make it.
Make sure you share that with your recruiter or that will happen to the next person too.
Hey, that sounds like a Terrible Experience. I've interviewed with two teams at Amazon; while I did not get a job, I must say that most of the interviewers were friendly and made me feel comfortable. So this incident might be outliers.
I interviewed at Amazon once and my experience was great throughout the loop(except for the time it took). Who knows ? May be the good experiences are the outliers.
I have trained and interviewed at Amazon, its totally unacceptable. Deliver this message to recruiter politely. I'm sure they will do something about it.
doged a bullet fuck them
