Late offer stage at fb and had some real pressing questions that recruiter seemed to deflect . I understand fb offers 21 days of PTO , parental and bereavement leave . However, at my current team I have the ability to take time off for other things for example I have family in India that I might need to fly to take care of in case of an emergency . Although I've never used it , the unlimited PTO and my performance on the team makes it easier for me to deal with situations such as these if I need to. I'm obviously willing to spend my PTO but in such cases is there a chance to work remotely (from abroad) for a while? I understand this may vary from team to team but I'm trying to know what / if possibilities exist .the #wlb threads on FB aren't making it seem any good either :(
Yes, it's supported depending on team. Hence all the leave policies.
Ask the HM and set expectations. If you’re not comfortable with the response, decline. Family is more important than TC.
Wait . I won't know the hm till after bootcamp right ?
If this were possible - yes I would do exactly this .
If you are taking care of a sick family member it will count as a sick leave. One of my teammates took ~5 months off two half back and went back home for taking care of his sick father. Out of 5 months, ~4 months were paid.
You can ask this question to your potential managers in bootcamp and select a team based on flexibility around this.
Thanks for responding y'all! I'm sure this will help others who might be wondering as well and dispel some of the fear around wlb at fb .
It's Facebook. What makes you think they offer WLB? Last year they were famous for pushing a guy to suicide. They compensate by offering high TC but it comes at a price.
odd, didn't you know you worked here. oh wait, you don't
Worked there. Does that count?
