Some of the best security engineers that I've encountered in my career came from security consulting background. Edit: now that I think about it, I've never met a crappy security engineer who used to be a consultant. But again, the crappy ones probably wouldn't have made it into FAANG
so you saying one could grow from consulting role into mainstream security engineering? heard consulting roles dont involve coding/development...wouldnt that be a deterrent if one wants to evolve into a security engineer down the line?
Don't worry about the engineering aspect. I didn't start out as an engineer either but as long as you can demonstrate in the interview that you can write code (Leetcode easy), you'll score an engineer position.
