I have relied on my apartment gym (pretty nice one) for a while. When they decided to close it, i picked up a 3 month at a club within walking distance of my apartment. Then that closed. I was obese much of my life, but have gotten into better shape 205 lbs and built a lot of muscle by having a great routine for 5+ years. I’m afraid that if I lose access to exercise, that I will gain weight back and not be healthy and happy. My family has all experienced complications of obesity including diabetes and kidney disease. I have a road bike and love it in the summer. I’m asthmatic so my running capacity is limited. I would normally run 3 2 minute sprints in a 40 minute cardio session intermixed with speed walking on in line. So I will probably start biking in the cold for cardio work. Also will need some strength training. I’m open to recommendations.
Have you worked out with kettlebells before? They can be a great substitute for pretty much everything. Just watch some YouTube videos to get an idea of what you can do with them.
I haven’t made a routine of it but have done some lunges with them before. I am thinking I need some home equipment, but don’t have a whole lot of room.
You don't need a lot of room for kettlebells. I bought a couple just recently cause i don't have much room but wanna continue my workouts.
Have you tried P90X or Insanity?
I haven’t! Is it something you can do without bothering downstairs neighbors (jumping up down is loud).
You could do the weight routines for p90x without bothering neighbors, but the cardio routines and all of Insanity would be loud if you're upstairs. That being said, I've used (and love) both programs. Insanity took my distance running to another level!
Bought exercise bike under $150 https://amzn.to/3bfDY5z I was going to get Peloton but too expensive that includes monthly fee
A lot of gyms have online classes, some with a live instructor (over Zoom). I’ve been doing those. If you’re a paying member you can log in and take those classes. Edited to add: the MINDBODY app also has various gyms/studios in SF offering Zoom classes like this.
Oh, I didn’t know one needs to attend a gym to stay fit
Is this helpful?
Yes. Posts like this are absolutely first-world problems and completely eye-rolling. The gym craze only began some 30 years ago. Heaven forbid we have to go back to fundamental exercises.
Just get a resistance band set and thank me later.
