Staffing agency is offering $80/hr at google (1 YR) vs. the 120k TC I have now at Amazon as QA. Roles seems interesting and pay bump and perks are nice but not sure if it's worth it.
Don't. I've read so much about how bad it is. Google "Silicon Valley shadow workforce".
You run the risk of being a low-tier contractor forever because companies hiring for FT generally are biased against contractors.
that’s a lateral move at best.
You don’t get paid benefits and no pto, stay at your full time gig
lol don’t you fools try to talk him into taking a staffing job
Stay FTE. I’m contracting at Google now and desperately seeking FTE
Could you eleborate please.
1 - you pay your own health insurance so subtract at least $12k comp 2 - zero paid vacation. Just 24 hours of sick leave 3 - locked out of internal tools that could help you get FTE 4 - locked out of some internal tools TO GET YOUR JOB DONE 5 - you don’t get SWAG, treated like second class citizen 6 - can’t attend company events or parties 7 - can’t attend many company training events I could go on and on
$80 an hour = ~ $166k (2080 hours). Probably not worth it considering all you’re giving up.
If you made what I made, how much would you need in order to take a temp role? JC
Unless you need to get out, or the role is much more suited towards your career goals, stay as an FTE.
Thanks for the responses everyone, I'll just see if I can get Google FTE at some point :) I'm just a little bored right now so it seemed interesting 🙃
Subtract 20% from hourly pay for the benefits ( pto/insurance/401k etc ) , although google does give free food right so add that back
