I've got 5 YOE (2 at Google currently) and am thinking of taking some rest (1 year MIN, 2 year MAX). I wonder how bad it is going to look on my resume when I start to recruiting after the break. Also, is it possible to come back to Google without interview ? Thanks ! 2023 TC in my comp letter: 330k
I had/have about a year. 1 of 100 HRs asks why. That's all.
It's fine, if you ace the interviews and are a nice fellow, then nobody cares. Just stay up to date those 2 years.
yeah probably, i guess the only thing matters is leetcode then haha
What level are you?
5
What about taking unpaid time off and see how it goes?
Just make sure you have a good story to explain what you learned or how you grew during that time.
You can always sell it as an eye opening and unique experience. You saw the world, read all the books you wanted, consulted a non-profit, finally learned a skill you wanted to learn, directed a film etc. Can turn it into a positive if you are creative (obviously if it sounds logical enough). Depending on a particular role, companies value diversity of experiences, especially if you can somehow relate it to how it can make you better at this job.
Pretty bad without a strong reason.
It will likely have some impact but you could easily blow it off by networking your way into another role or claiming you had a health issue to take care of.
You can always make up a good excuse like a sick family member. Go enjoy life
Before you go consider taking short term medical leave. It’s really easy to take and you get up to 6 months per year. I’m…right there with you re burnout. I’ve been toying with the idea of leaving for a while. I’m going to 60% time as a compromise! That’s really easy to do too.
Can you get laid off on short term medical leave? I finally got my promo in November and had been planning a sabbatical for a long time, but am now scared I will get laid off
If you want to take a break anyway, why would you be upset about getting laid off? Then you get to take a break and get severance pay.
Not a problem at all
