All I hear is people getting depressed, PIP’d, crying at their desk, and working insane hours. How true is this?
I think my friend found it pretty chill and fun, but his TC was only 150 at 4 YoE...
Oh nice - what level? TC with 4 YOE in HQ sounds low. Unless he did no negotiation
Think he did no negotiation. Guy doesn't really care about money, he refused to leetcode to get better roles shrug
... not true?
Explain - what team are you on? Are you a DS?
explain what? That most people in analytics are happy? Where do people come up with these bs posts
Low TC for sure. Probably not worth it for the amount of work.
How low?
I checked with the recruiter for 5-8 yoe, he provided these numbers for e5. $130 base, $25k/year stocks, $5-10k joining.
Have been here almost 4 years and though some parts aren’t ideal, it’s a fantastic place to work. It’s different from other jobs though and you have to align with the culture - if you don’t you won’t like it.
Wanna elaborate on culture then and what will make somebody be a good fit?
From what I’ve seen, people who are successful at DS either 1) are deep technical experts and can do work that others cannot, in ranking or segmentation or econometrics or things like that or 2) people who are willing to be super proactive about finding things to work on and pushing their agenda on product teams. The type of people who do not do well are people who want to be given assignments or projects and expect to be able to simply execute. One of the big differences at FB DS vs others is that you are expected to be a product leader so you can’t just “do stuff” you have to constantly push new ideas and new strategies.
Facebook is hellhole in general. Suckerberger failed product direction but only knows how to squeeze people
I just had a call with a recruiter and all I heard was if it's okay to move modeling out of the equation. I probably need to look for other openings/ML roles.. I'm nowhere close to research scientist, so looking for something in between. Any suggestions?
What does “move modeling out of the equation” mean?
Basically he was asking if I'm fine with not doing hands-on modeling in the role. It sounded more like an analyst role.
It’s an analyst role that pays like a data scientist role but has the snotty air of people who are smarter than they actually are.
Lol so true
How does the career progression for data scientist, product analytics at Facebook look like. How far can they go in the ladder
That sounds like Amazon though?
Insert - why not both - meme
