Had a conversation with a friend about how saturated the market is for web dev. He told me that on the opposite end it's really hard finding android devs to hire at his company. For every 100 applicants they get for their full stack openings, they'll get about 40 for iOS and 5 for Android. I'm curious if that's true across the board. Is the Android dev space generally less saturated/competitive? #mobile #android #frontend #backend #jobmarket #softwareengineer

Since iOS is the dominant platform in the U.S there's more of a demand for native iOS devs compared with Android devs. Most companies tend to contract out android dev vs hire so there's definitely a lack of domestic talent. Barrier to entry for web is lower than mobile so there will naturally be a larger talent pool there.
This is not true at all… I’ve never heard of in house iOS and contract android. Maybe early stage startups trying to save money?
Yeah for faang & unicorns with the budget you're going to have dedicated teams for both iOS and Android. Historically when picking platforms to prioritize most people chose to build on iOS first. The android version of the app was usually an afterthought. When it comes to cutting costs companies usually cut support & staff for Android first bc there's a smaller user base. Most startups nowadays are shifting towards react native/flutter/capacitor vs pure native apps now that the ecosystem has matured so you're less likely to see resources dedicated purely for mobile. But this is why there are less android devs in the us compared with iOS.
Yes
Cannot generalize 100:40, looks exaggerated. Depends on what the company is into.
