How did google meet hamgout and Skype/team let zoom happen?

Is it marketing? The functionality is literally the same

eBay fjrnxnansm Apr 3, 2023

I hope you are joking! Zoom is miles ahead of others

Microsoft Dmkm45 Apr 3, 2023

Zoom miles ahead of the others? Lmao Zoom has no functionality that's why it's "miles above" for its one core function.

You can say that about anything that is best of breed. MSFT is where mediocrity lives and is tolerated to save some $.

Microsoft Dmkm45 Apr 4, 2023

Except I really don't think that Microsoft Teams is mediocrity. It's been scaled miles ahead of what zoom or Slack offers and with that comes challenges and trade offs.

Zoom miles ahead in audio and video quality.

Google+? Do you mean Google Meet?

LinkedIn ilopv OP Apr 3, 2023

Yes

Google dogfoodie Apr 3, 2023

Google Meet was an esoteric workspace and internal tool prior to the pandemic. It did a lot of catching up in the past 3 years. While I'm obviously biased, I think its interface and being completely in the browser makes it much better than Zoom today.

I think at the time Zoom was the only one that was widely available and free to use. Google meet at the time was available only to paying customers and the free version of Skype had limitations on conferencing, screen sharing etc.

Google Hangouts was free, Google Meet was made free after April 2020.

Conspiracy\strategy of big companies --- they let disruptors grow and then acquihire them. Those disruptors bring new customers. If Msft or Google succeeded initially with Skype or Google+ then market wouldn't have rewarded much. But if any of them buy out zoom then they would get a good reward.
