I've been trying to leave for a year but can't even get tech firms / investment companies to respond. 30ish apps, not one single interview. I'm genuinely lost as to why I can't even get a phone call back and it weighs on me every day now. Another rejection came in today that got me absolutely crushed. Here's what I've done in the time I've been looking: about 450 LC (180 Easy, 220 Medium, 50 Hard). Got certified in cloud, working on being multi-cloud. Picked up dataviz/UX skills e.g. tableau, react. And then skilling up / retaining ML and Applied Stats skills. 5 YoE £65k TC Need visa sponsorship Oxbridge CS/ML MSc
Are you a SW? If so, what’s your stack? UX/ML skills are ok but I think having experience in architecture, scaling, monitoring and observability is more valuable for a SW candidate. The visa situation also limits your options, have you tried applying for Expedia? If you’re good you will get a better salary and when travel recovers you could break into the 100k TC if the stock picks up
Somewhat of a cross between data scientist and engineer, mainly Python. Been applying for DS and DE roles. I think you're right about focusing on arch/scalability/prod, but hard to get experience unless you're on the right project with the right client. Will take a look at Expedia.
Funny how Deloitte UK rejected me before I got into Bloomberg. If you went to Oxbridge, why did you even apply to Deloitte?
Had offers from startups who couldn't give me a visa. Recruiter reached out with a role at D which sounded like a good fit as I had consulting experience, so I took it. Huge let down. But is that the rep Deloitte has? Maybe that's why I can't even get a phone screen. I need the visa so I'm out of luck tho.
How many YOE do you have in Software? You might need to target entry level SWE roles at companies like JustEat, Visa, Sainsbury’s, Santander before you can target 100k roles at FB, BB etc
That's shitty TC OP. I am earning same TC as yours sitting in India. You should try Singapore and Western Europe like Amsterdam. Also work on your linkedin profile and try to bring in more visibility to get calls from better companies.
I’m in the US, so maybe the HMs/recruiters in UK have different standards, but I can look over your resume if you want. My callback rate was about 35% recently. Feel free to DM.
try Spotify — your profile should easily get you higher TC. If not, then add ML projects onto your profile and reach out via referrals. Your TC should definitely be higher given your profile.
What about FE roles at Spotify?
sorry, I'm unsure about Frontend Engineering role payscales
Try Facebook Data Science role. They could double your TC easily.
I agree, they're also hiring constantly. Just some headcount problems atm.
For some reasons, the UK is heavily driven by years of experience, probably thats the reason, also visa sponsorship is pain in the ass, luckly from jan 1st new visa system will be in place and you should get to 100k mark easily, try amazon solutions Architect, they need lots of people.
How would the visa process be improved in Jan? And how would it drive wages up?
Though I don't think it will drive wages up but from next year visas will.be issued based on points based systems. Google UK points based visa
It's pretty much the same thing. Most of the points are for having a job offer. Doesn't seem to make my situation better except for the fact that I'll no longer be back of the line for a job compared to EU citizens.
Just FYI I’m outside the UK and I have interviewed a lot. It was hard to get anything above 80k GBP. A few places offered 100k but I didn’t clear the interview.
Which companies offered 100k?
you should be making 100k+ with these skills and education
