How do I not get downleveled?

Currently working at a fintech startup/small company that doesnt seem to be profitable any time soon. Thinking about trying to move back to a larger company but don’t want a paycut or downlevel. I’m confident that I have the ability and can handle the scope for a senior software engineering role. Current role involves lots of high level design, project planning, as well as direct involvement speccing out projects with legal/compliance and customers. However, I seem to be below the cutoff yoe range for senior engineers. Any suggestions on how to convince/demonstrate to interviewers/company that I am at that level comfortably? Don't know what kind of engineering you do. But I would do some research on certs that fit your knowledge base and go after them. It's a great way to show knowledge when lacking experience.

Ask for what you want and if they say "no we have a policy against taking you through the senior loop with X yoe" thank them for their time and walk. Your biggest negotiation power will always be your ability to walk from the table

That's the strongest negotiation position one can imagine :)

I would not want to work anywhere that thinks 5 yoe is needed for senior

Unfortunately I believe most big tech companies believe 5-7 years is minimum for senior engineers.
