I was thinking this ranking system in terms of prestige, not matriculation. Tier 1: Jane Street/Two Sigma/ Citadel <--------------> Harvard/MIT/Stanford Tier 2: FAANG <------------> UIUC/GT/UMichigan/UT Austin Tier 3 F500 Companies (NCR, AT&T, etc. ) <-----------> UGA/state schools Tier 4 Midwest local dev shop <-----------> Community College/small college #tech
I wouldn't necessarily put finance above FAANG for prestige. Most people have not heard of those companies, whereas everyone has heard of the companies in FAANG.
Who are “most people”? You can’t measure prestige based on popularity. That’s like saying Walmart is prestigious because every low class bricklayer knows if
Most people, as in average people such as your relatives, both have heard of Google and hold them in high regard. Everyone's heard of Walmart but they don't hold them in high regard.
OP, do you work at Apple?
Weak bait
Depends on the role. For example a LDP / role in Corporate Development is more prestigious than someone working back office Accounting in F500
More money != prestige. Just because js hiring less doesn’t mean they are more prestigious from software companies
Prestige doesn't matter for jobs. I worked at several midwest dev shops before moving on to a silicon valley tech company.
Smart people are everywhere and at every school. Genius doesn’t discriminate.
Op is Indian
There is no such thing as prestige
False
Prestige is a myth.
