Spotify Reviews - Good culture, poor compensation https://www.teamblind.com/company/Spotify/review/YOHoowTGJs6 I was reading reviews of Spotify and poor management is cited often. I am curious to understand how you can have a good culture with poor management? Any other companies that boast of a good culture but poor compensation and management? How do they achieve a good culture? TC: not working at the moment was let go #tech #culture
I worked in a small company that reflected just this. Management sucked big, and because of this, my teammates and I were amazing to each other. It was a situation that the relationship between the owners and the employees was so poor, that it humanized everybody in the team. Not sure if the same applies to Spotify though
Appreciate it, thank you. I have worked in small companies that have had "great culture" exactly the way you describe i.e. people would work well together but dislike the top management with a vengeance. They were paid poorly, had to resign renegotiate for matching market rate and had incompetent senior leadership that caused frustration and delays. The way this company worked was because of middle management supporting their reportees. So it was a never ending circle of complaints but no action to fix it either by the employees (i.e. leaving the company) or by the management (bringing constructive positive change). Corporate experience has been toxic but also decent but I am yet to work in a good culture that doesn't need quotations... Personally, I find indecisive leadership the most frustrating and also those managers who sugarcoat and just tell you everything is paranoia...when often they wouldn't know where the company is going or have clarity on their vision. It is frustrating.
Perhaps these are comments from underperformers that were let go.
Idk I hope it’s not true, I’m joining Spotify in a week and a half.
Their promotion and compensation rumours are not rumours. Those aspects are indeed poorly handled. (I learned from people who work at Spotify and also experienced during the recruitment process.) I would however say that I took Spotify as an example but this issue happens everywhere these days. Good culture is used as a token and barely means much...so I am just intrigued to what an actual good culture with a strong/sincere leadership looks like. Congrats on the offer! Spotify is a good brand to have on your CV. You will enjoy your experience!
Thanks nopro!
May be people like collogues but not manager. Or low comp is result of poor management ig.
