Anyone from Airbnb?
As an eng it can be boring and some of the managers here are bad so you might get fucked even with bootcamp. We also have had a number of top down mandates that wreck your work life balance over the last year. We have decent food and nice offices though. 3/10 I don't recommend it.
What were the mandates?
Would you mind elaborating on the bad managers?
I've been here as an engineer for a couple years. It's the best place I've worked so far. The people are great and it's nice to be working on a product that doesn't need ads to make money.
I am about 9 months in. The people are all good to work with and the work life balance has been great (though I do think I have a good manager). Infrastructure and the dev environment breaks and deploying your own code to the main app can be slow. I feel like the mission of the company is exciting and it is still growing and doing well at a great clip. It seems like there are lots of opportunities because the team is growing. The company doesn't feel engineering focused like fb or google thou that doesn't bother me because the general company focus is positive and inclusive
Must be boring
Overall a good place with great people. Avoid CX/Trust roles at all cost.
Why do you say avoid trust? Does that include Trust and a Risk engineering? Recruiter recently reached with that division. What's CX?
Customer experience. Trust engineering is probably fine if you do it at HQ. But stay away from trust and safety case work (which it sounds like you're doing)
I had this question too. I see their Glassdoor review score drop from 4.5 to 3.8 in a year though.
This drop is primarily from reviews from people who don't work in product. As an engineer, airbnb is, all things considered, a great place to work.
Airbnb has a lot of non-engineer employees (customer-service, etc.) who dominate the Glassdoor reviews, so I would take the overall score with a grain of salt. I've been there for many years and I don't think things are different for engineers now than a few years ago. There are a few orgs within eng that have been unhappy due to reorgs etc but overall morale is pretty high.
