Lived in TX when I’ve got an offer from Snap and moved to CA a day before the first working day, now planning to move out of CA. I know that CA will consider RSUs as a taxable income if you get them while being in CA. In my case, I was physically present in TX, when I’ve got and signed the offer. Does it mean that I “got” RSUs in TX? Help from people who already solved this mystery is appreciated. TC 600
Rsus are never granted on 1st wirking date, as it needs board approval so usually in a week or few
Btw CA taxes all income if RSUs vest while you are CA resident, so not important here where were tgey granted
it is actually important, when you change residence, you will still pay taxes for RSUs granted in CA, even if they vest outside of CA, just some adjustment will be applied
Yes i know, but you still in CA at vest date, not really important when and where it was granted
I believe it’s time based, if you have 4y RSUs vest, and 3 of those years you were in CA, they’ll tax 75% of vest value. So if you move now, you’ll still be paying CA taxes for years.
yeah, this is true, but only applicable to RSUs grants “received” in CA Therefore, I am trying to understand what does it mean to “receive” it Maybe signature on the job offer means that you received it
No that’s not true. There is nothing special about grant date, RSU lifecycle starts from grant date and goes until vest date, CA will tax you based on the proportion of those days between grant and vest that you were a CA tax resident
Nice try 😂😂
