Complete novice here, i read investipedia on how Meta makes revenue from ads, but how is it possible that the revenue is in billions comparable to google that is probably every one uses and is familiar with as opposed to Facebook or Instagram that only maybe certain demographic use? #meta

Meta has a better conversion rate for ads so there’s better ROI.
Meta conversion rate is not nearly as high as Google’s paid search overall. But the ad inventory is cheaper so it doesn’t matter. And some things do just sell really well on Facebook with the content component.
And higher conversion rates doesn’t always equate to higher ROI if margins are low, for the record
They cover entire age range b/w FB and IG and are global with WhatsApp too. Plus, it doesn’t matter age range, what matters is # of users and they have a lot.
It's just user count right? How many do we know actually Pay anything on these apps? Most people just swipe for free :)
What do you mean? If you’re swiping, you’re viewing ads. Those are priced at CPM regardless of click or not.

You do know 3.2 Billion people use one of the meta apps on a monthly basis. That’s billion with a B. Selling ads with such a large user base is as easy as breathing
