How does one become an IBM master inventor?

I came across this profile: https://shorturl.at/bc789 who has 500+ patents to his name. Curious if the IBM folks can chime in how this works? Is there a division in IBM which solely focuses on patents irrespective of whether those ideas become products?

Ex IBM’er here, they are big patent/IP trolls. Will file patents for things/ideas/anything then sue companies who bring products to market using their ‘patent’

Every single person at the company is encouraged to join patent workshops and file as many patents possible per year. Master inventor just means they filed a shit ton of patents. The patents don’t even need to be valuable but occasionally one person out of thousands will file something useful or at the least interesting.
