I recently got a verbal offer from Activision for a Lead Data Scientist role. However it was substantially below my current compensation and my company is notoriously cheap. I tried to negotiate but they wouldn’t budge. I ended up rejecting them because the terms were disrespectful. They offered: $190K base $50K stock but didn’t specify vesting schedule 15% bonus $25K signing bonus So we’re looking at $243K yr 1, $218K after, excluding RSUs. I have 8 YOE at top tech companies and this offer is almost $100K below my current comp on my 2022 compensation statement and waaaay less than what I told the recruiter I make currently. Is Activision known for being cheap? The negotiation kinda felt bad faith. #gaming #datascience
Quite comparable to Lead/Staff level DS at Riot. It's a gaming company what do you expect 🫤
Normal in gaming. Make sure you understand stock vesting schedule and bonus stipulations as all that could be lower
It’s gaming. Sadly, you will never make more money in gaming than in other industries, even for comparable roles. It is a passion industry (I.e. people work in gaming because they love games, and take a passion tax to work there, keeping salaries low).
