How fb hides sponsored posts from ad blocker

Just came across a reddit post. What's leetcode level for this?

Microsoft werpAderp Dec 9, 2018

Quit using that Facebook garbage then?

Microsoft Tier 1 Dec 9, 2018

Either quit Facebook (preferable option) or just keep reporting ads as offensive and/or irrelevant (even if they are non offensive and relevant) Oh... also click on ads that aren’t even remotely relevant.

Facebook public2 Dec 9, 2018

Curious how you think reporting or clicking on ads hurts anyone?

Microsoft werpAderp Dec 9, 2018

Throws off metrics they use for targeted advertising.

When their whole business model depends on seeing ads, they'll be as sleezy / tricky as necessary

Most of their traffic is mobile apps nowadays, where you have far less control over these things. You’re better off installing something ublock on your router than on a per-browser basis.

Facebook fat.snek Dec 9, 2018

Wait how do you do this?

Intuit NoL33tcode Dec 9, 2018

I honestly don’t know. But if you google it, you’ll see it’s a thing.

I hate Facebook. Never use it. And just makes me realize why I would not want to work for this company

Unfortunately it’s an arm race with adblocks. We can’t win this one, but doing silly things like that gives us a legal base in case we wanted it. The real villain here is adsblockers who sell ads whitelisting regardless whether users want it or not. Google caved in and paid the extortion money.
