Coming from Service oriented architecture and microservices background, how challenging is apple ?
Really good especially on internet service group. I heard the comp is really good there and the work life balance is amazing. This is the vibe I'm getting from apple only section of blind.
Are you being sarcastic? When you say internet services is it Eddie's group?
I don't think he's being sarcastic. I'm in Eddie's org and comp/work life balance seems to be much better than the rest of Apple
Apple is very old school in the way most software is written. So expect things like mammoth binaries, slow deployment systems, etc. I would not say it's challenging but more frustrating.
Does Apple treat their own developers better or worse than they treat third parties who develop for their platforms?
curious about the iTunes, iCloud orgs as well? I assume that is considered internet services. what is pay range like for senior engineer or senior sre?
I'm in an Internet services org and comp and work life balance is pretty great. Comp for sr engineer seems to be around 300k, depending on experience
hey thanks a lot. is Apple generous with stock refreshers and sign-on bonuses?
I m more focused on work challenges and agility in product development, agility between teams. As far as i see Apple is NOT a good place for backend software engineers with soa experience. I want to hear it first hand, if thats true
True
Internet Services at Apple is a growing business. Senior engineers are given a lot of responsibility and potential for impact is huge. They are paid competitively. If someone is capable, comp is *not* going to be an issue. There are no artificial title related hurdles, senior engineers regularly get face time with higher management.
You're not talking about IS&T, correct? Senior is ICT4 or 5? Any specific teams you'd recommend?
IS&T is not in Internet Services. 'Senior', IMHO, would be an someone in the highest (compensation wise) half of ic4 range. There are no such formal titles at Apple, so this is a matter of people's opinion. I have no reservations recommending any team within Internet Services. If you perform well, people will take care of you.
Depends. Heard is generally sucky.
