Going to be attending a T10 MBA program and trying to break in to product management. How would analytics experience stack up against management consulting/tech consulting/PMM when applying for product roles? TC: 140k #product #productmanager #pm
Depends on goals. Focused on start-ups? That direct experience will be valuable and relatable. Going for MANGA? Management Consulting. I wouldn't go PMM but it is viable. Long-term, if you can get in to management consulting (especially MBB) then do it.
Makes sense, thanks!
Based on my perspective in B2B, I’d say PMM or MBB is a clearer path. Analytics can be more niche. If you take the analytics path, try to get good at articulating the story behind the data and be helpful to the PM. Rather than take a list of requirements and implementing be the person who understands the larger context the analytics is needed for and drive value for your stakeholders. NestrCoyn is probably right for B2C.
Im actually currently in consulting but not at MBB. Best bet is to try to lateral to MBB then?
Look, I think MBB is glorious. And there really is a fantastic benefit to doing it. But at a certain point your best bet might just be to try to live your dream. Maybe look at some start ups and see if you can make the case to be a product manager. No need to spend years toiling in adjacent areas.
