How good or bad idea this is?

#h1b I am in mid-20s and I am on H1B. I am single and no plan to get married for at least 5 years. My country of birth is India. Should I move to Canada on PR and work there for 3 years, get citizenship and come back to US and work on TN? What are the pros and cons of TN over H1B on Indian passport? Also, how difficult it is to return back to USA? (I have a Master's from the US) I will take TC and career opportunities hit for 3 years but is it worth it? I can only do this till I am single and before 30s. This becomes difficult if not impossible to do it after certain age and once married.

Why not making your born place get independent from India? Then you suddenly become ROW.

I am not that selfish to break my country or wish for it to break for a green card. I came to US at very young age and studied in the US, never worked in India so it is difficult for me to adjust there now (it's not the same India I left, it feels foreign to me now) so don't want to go back, I don't as such hate India.

This comment is so underrated. I like the idea of creating "INDEXIT". However, what if OP 's state is somewhere from central India?

It’s not easy to come back.TN is highly volatile and unstable. You May not be able to even get a TN if I140 is filed. If you want to live in the US just be on an H1. Also by the time you get the passport it will be close to 5 years.

You don't need to stay in canada after applying for citizenship

Zynga DORw15 Dec 30, 2019

I think you do.Theres an intent to erode clause which may delay your application if your not in Canada. Also you will have to give a Canadian mailing address

Three years? Count on 5

Autodesk AADC36 Dec 29, 2019

I don't think you have to stay in Canada after completing 3 yrs and applying for citizenship

Once you’re a manager .. you could move to Canada or elsewhere for a couple of years and come back on L1A which might help ? I’ve also heard TN visa is unpredictable and eventually Canadians also apply for h1b..

Credit Karma Pizza🍕🍕 OP Dec 29, 2019

Thanks for 5 year comments, I didn't knew PR to citizenship processing time is 12 months, then 7 months for proof of citizenship and then apply passport. Yes, 5 years can be safe bet. 5 years is too long, I might even lose desire to come back.

Don’t do it. Make money in US. Canada is miserable. Canadian like to think they are the polite open minded versions of Americans but they are on average much more hostile and racist. And the leftist government of Justin is gonna collapse the economy even more. It’s a shame a country with this much resources being crushed in the hands of identity politics fake leaders. Note that Justin is a fucking racist and sexist who is virtue signaling the rest of us.

Can’t you reclaim (H1B visa transfer) your H1B visa if you return within 5 years?

Credit Karma Pizza🍕🍕 OP Dec 29, 2019

I can but then what's the point? H1B cannot be renewed indefinitely, to renew indefinitely you need approved I-140. Once I-140 is filed I become ineligible for TN. Then I have no benefit of Canada passport!

Salesforce superbowl Dec 29, 2019

Why don’t get get I-140 approved before moving to Canada so that in future you could be in US on H1B and Canadian passport? I don’t see anything wrong with that.

Once you have kids and somehow worst case - H1 extension gets denied. Are you okay moving back to India with kids ? Can they adjust ?

Credit Karma Pizza🍕🍕 OP Dec 31, 2019

No idea. This is too far in the future for me right now. But 5 years to be citizen is also not viable. I will be 32 by then and might even loose desire to come back to US. And settling in India looks better to me over Canada in terms of career opportunities and advancement. Might choose India over Canada to settle anyday because of career opportunities & Canada is not like US where you can call your parents permanently, in India I can stay with my parents forever :)

Is this for career or for visa ? Depends on what career and net worth/ TC lift you are getting & whether your current employer is applying for your GC (or you are able to change companies here to get your GC applied 140 stage pass so you can change companies).. typically I have seen moving to Canada can decrease your TC and then affect net worth long term..
