I am considering a position in Austin. How is the org and work culture?
Go look at the code and the ticket queues. It will tell you a lot. Ops is insane cause associates in the fc trigger sev2s easily
I work at AFT India and most of teams have legacy code and heavy OE load. Still you can get some very good sub teams which have great work. I would recommend talk to your hm and get clarity on the work
Thank you.
I worked in AFT before and the ops load is nuts. The bar is all over the place. Some teams are really lazy and others have amazing engineers. I now work in the Austin office and had seen nerf guns lying around so I can assume that they have nerf fights periodically. :)
When you say ops load is nuts, how bad is it. Whats the wlb in general for an engineer?
You get paged if a single FC has certain issues. The same ones would page us week after week. After I left the team they got things under better control though. During November and December expect crazier hours.
If your team is called SNOW do not get into it atleast for DevOps Engineer roles. It's just a shit role. Does not make much difference for the SDE/ PA roles too. Team has no progressive goals but has highly inefficient and dumb managers who can ruin you career.
Since you're already at Amazon, what did the tech survey say?
