Genuinely curious. We don't know who will win the AI race, bard or bing. Neither me nor anyone in my family has used any Microsoft product in the past 5 years. Everyday we use Macbooks, Android/Iphones, all google suite products like maps, gmail, docs, calendar etc. I know Microsoft monetized their products and is able to earn significant revenue, but is that enough to say that Google is dying?
Lol do use Best Buy, Starbucks, target, LinkedIn, Xbox they all use azure. And this list goes on. Consumer usage perception != companies valuation. Check balance sheet and then decide companies future. Death of a company is not solely by how a company is positioned in a particular industry domain. Death of company is based on cash flow
We all know how azure sells their cloud products giving out free credits. AWS leads the cloud market
You're right about the cash flow part
Bro one is a lot more B2B, the other is more B2C
You obviously don’t understand software monetization. 80%+ of Google’s profits comes from one product: search ads [with product listing ads being a distant 2nd]. Google has failed to monetize any other product in the past 15 years. All the “products” you mentioned are money sinks for Google’s ad profits. On the contrary, Microsoft has successfully made its office suite very profitable, it has added highly-profitable Azure to its profit mix, and is on-track to create a third profit stream thru ChatGPT. Not saying that Google is doomed, just that it takes a massive shift in strategy for it to survive in the post-ad-money-printing world
What about ads on YouTube ads?
This is the key. MSFT has multiple independent business that can be profitable: 1. OS 2. Office 3. Xbox 4. Cloud 5. Game studio MSFT can completely lose multiple of these and still be fine. The idea is that Google just has Search.
First, let me say that there are still much to be advanced (on AI front) and I’m sure crazy good idea that hit the spot will come into place and change everything. Between MSFT & Google, I don’t think the their core business competes each others. State of play are: 1. MSFT money is ALL in B2B recurring bundles (including AI), their cloud I dare to say is as good and healthy as AWS (might be even more reliable) Without above crazy good idea, bing + GPT is just gonna be a distraction. 2. Google money is ALL in ads, good cloud but can’t compare to its own ads cash monster, left alone any other products. I think Google is on the decline, but not primarily because of MSFT competition; they are just on different market. But rather Meta or Tiktok is chewing their ads share. Some personal take to share.
I wonder if Microsoft does win if they will be forced to prop up Google Bard just so they aren't a monopoly in AI. Just like what happened in the late 90s early 2000s
You're just lucky that you don't HAVE TO use ms products
Agree. My point is, a lot more people use Google products than Msft. My last workplace used Google suite of products (paid subscription) instead of Msft.
