I’ve been working at a startup for the summer, and the one thing that always pains me is that there isn’t seamless search across all internal documentation, media, code repos, memos, my work email, etc. My friend at FB says they have a baller implementation, is this true for other companies? I know Stripe launched Stripe home, which sort of tackles this. Could a service like this be offered as a SaaS product?
Confluence may help with that. Google uses internal tools. There was a good product called GSA(Google Search Appliance), but they deprecated it recently. You can try to search for similar products or try Gogle Custom Search.
Lol Confluence sucks at search more then a vacuum.
A big part of internal/corporate search is organizing what docs/sites to include as part of that search AND setting appropriate permissions. Also important is purging outdated documents. Once you have this done right, the actual job of indexing and searching is relatively straight forward. Most corporate internal search becomes hard to use because of lack of this well defined corpus.
Give Confluence a try?
