Interviewing at Twilio, how is the culture like over there ? I am interviewing for a SRE role at Twilio, not sure of the team where the role is based. TC: 100k š„
Itās definitely not similar to Amazon, and like many other companies, is largely role/team-dependent. A large portion of the company has survived two rounds of layoffs and an endless stream of last-minute changes, which is probably not helping things.
Definitely sounds similar to Amazon then lol
Every mid cap is just hiring leadership that amazon pips. It's š¶ the circle of life š¶
What kind of role are you interviewing for?
Site Reliability Engineer
Amzn has SRE? or u sliding in from different role?
I'd say it's team dependent but if you join my business unit I wish you the best of luck because it is awful in here
What's your business unit?
Segment?
If youāre joining anything other than Segment, good luck to you
Segment is a joke too
Segment is consistently at 75%-80% of its revenue goals each quarter. Its a mess. Wonder why people keep thiking grass is greener over this side
Op, a little more detail will help us in giving you more perspective.

Segment is shit as well
Why?
Flex is the worst shit they have
The SRE team I work with is fantasticā¦ best in my career by miles. But there are many SRE teams within the company, so can only speak for the one I am familiar with. Otherwise, itās a mixed bag at best. WLB is generally good, but thereās no career pathing here, so no idea how to advance. Simply āworking harderā doesnāt work as Iāve been busting my ass for years and going nowhere. I know lots of folks that have been stuck with no promos and meager raises for the last couple years. But itāll be less of a soul sucking hell hole than Amazon is. But you are trading it for mostly rudderless leadership, so take from that what you will. FWIW, Iāll be leaving when the right opportunity comes along. Havenāt been happy here for the last couple years and do not see my situation improving at all.
Can pls I DM you for a referral? šš¼
Yup. Same here. SRE I work with is amazing. I think there used to be a SRE team but may no longer exist at Segment. YMMV. Sadly, management though is truly rudderless.
I listened to a podcast on how i built this from the twilio founder and seemed like a goober

What happens when most of your team is Indian?
heard itās similar to amazon
Lol. Say no more.
Nah I wouldnāt say that. I worked at both. Amazon has PIP and Twilio doesnāt. Twilio has much more incompetent leaders. Itās a country club with a sprinkle of nepotism. Amazon is great but WLB sucks. Twilioās WLB is average I would say.
