How is Wayfair SRE (Berlin)?

Offered TC (Berlin): €75k base, 10% bonus and €20k RSU YoE: 4 (Reposting tagging Wayfair for more visibility) Got an offer for SRE team in Berlin (I'm not in USA, so this is not a step down in terms of money). I've read a lot of negative reviews here (this thread https://www.teamblind.com/article/Technical-incompetence-at-Wayfair----is-there-anything-worse-43wn8iLT) and on Glassdoor, and most of it seems to be about legacy tech (which they said they're modernizing already) and questionable decisions (which every company has, honestly). But I'm guessing they're all for product dev teams, so I'm posting here for a better idea of their work and culture. How is the SRE team? Is any SRE team in particular doing good work? Is their work good, how are the managers and teams? I'm a mid-senior and want to be part of a team with good projects and the ability to progress (TC, WLB etc are lower priority). Does being in Berlin slow down promotion velocity a lot, or exclude you from major decisions?

Can you tell me a bit more about why people are leaving?

Lol what 🤣 you do realise I've signed up by verifying with a Microsoft email ID, right? Not a troll, was legit asking for info/opinions

Tldr; Don't do it. Please don't take it, please. It's like getting a PhD and then attending pre-school. Just stay at Microsoft, or take some time off, prepare a bit and join Google, or anywhere but here. There will be no SRE without a S, which is in the near future.

Not one team in the entire company has automated deployments. Berlin team has been pushing for them, but they get blocked with politics in Boston. The SRE practices are bad here, and the good Berlin SREs have quit already or are waiting to leave.

Deja vu 😐 a couple of years ago I was at a company where the hiring manager was talking a lot of BS but failed to walk the talk, no automated deployments and not even pushing for it. I left the company 11 months after joining, don't want to repeat it heh.

I turned down the offer. The money was decent but too many red flags throughout the process and negative feedback here and on Glassdoor etc. I'm moving countries if I have to take this up, so I don't want to be at an unstable place or find another company in six months. Thanks everyone for your feedback!

You have probably taken the best decision of your life I'd say. Wish you all the best! 😄

Sadly SRe is being dismantled. I feel like the people there, had an awesome vision that was torn apart because of a lack of understanding of what sre is. There were some really good people there who have been shifted in the org. Unfortunately it seems like the good ones have all given notice, or are about too. I did notice some are still fighting to bring it up to a even low standard. But I doubt they last long.
