Current in the loop for an L4 SWE position at Databricks. How is promo velocity for 50th percentile and 95th percentile engineer? Are they slow like Google or faster like FB? Current TC: 270k YoE: 1.5
Slow
Thanks, is it slow for everyone or org/team dependent?
Slow for top 5 L4
Hmm that doesn't sound good. What are average times? Do you think IPO prospects make up for slower growth?
I have no insights into avg time. After ipo, the company can find cheap senior talents from the industry. Why bothering promoting people with more stock grants
Very slow

Google alumni makes up culture for slower growth.
Itโs definitely faster compared with Google. Maybe slower compared with some other companies that have huge title inflation.
Thanks. What is 4-5 and 5-6 average time for median and top performers. Do you know how it compares to Facebook?
It used to be fast, but itโs super slow now. Itโs about the same as Google

95 you mean bottom 5? any one under 50 should not get promoted IMO
95th percentile refers to top 5. Not that I expect to be there in a company like Databricks, but I'm curious what the opportunities are like.
