How is eBay payments team?

Reveived a call from recruiter for an opportunity at eBay San Jose office. I’d like to know the culture, work, team and wlb at eBay and Payments org specific. Is it worth to give it a shot? Does eBay have future? And what does it mean for me having eBay on resume? I am working in a startup currently. PS: Pls dont ask startup name as it would identify me to my future teammates. I have some friends who work at eBay, based on what I heard their engineering culture is good, they are sitting on $, also they tend to get rid of businesses that doesn’t perform well every year, as long as ebay exist their payments team is going to exist.

Awesome Yeah makes sense I guess.

Expect good wlb and solid 200k a year at your level. Engineering wise Amazon is better, but people are nice.

Hey thanks for your response Can you please breakdown this 200k? Also, how is payments org? How are teams - Engg and Prod, both.

Base should be 150-170. 10 percent bonus. Sign on can go up to 60k. Stocks 60-80k over 4 if u negotiate well. Refreshers at 30k over 4.

I have a different view than most of the posts on here. I’d say the product talent is super hit or miss. On average, I’d say the talent is similar to a B2B SaaS company operating in a niche environment. Just not going anywhere. Eng takes the same amount of time to scope work between teams as I would expect them to actually build the product. Super hard workers but everything is super fragmented Middle managers to VP level, especially on the business side are mostly useless and dumb. I’ve never worked at Oracle but I get the feeling ebay would be very similar. Kush job if you’re good though. Overall there is no distinct focus on being data driven, the customer, or hiring/maintaining the best talent.

Answering your question about ‘eBay on the resume value’. After being here for a year, I’d look down upon it (PayPal too since there’s a lot of PayPal people) since the product org is average at best. Eng talent, on average, is what I’d expect from a contractor you can’t wait to get rid of. Mostly nice people tho.

Ohh eBay has a lot of contractors. Didn’t know that. How about eBay dying slowly? A lot of folks here think that. Do you think there is learning opportunity in general? Irrespective of the team and function. I have heard PayPal doesn’t have good talent in general. And eBay has good talent not sure how the same has been depleting. And eBay in general has better culture than oracle and PayPal. What’s your view on that? Is the culture still good at eBay? I just hope I like the work because that’s super important to me.
