How is everyone here so rich?

It looks like everyone and their grandma makes at leaat 300k here. How TF is that possible?? Is everyone here a machine learning PhD with 15 yoe working at Google? What kind of background and credentials do I need to bring in that kind of money? Is it possible with just a bachelor's? Or do I need at least a masters? (I know most h1bs have masters since they don't have a us bachelor's)

So if I don't work at a FAANG, am I doomed?

5 yoe, excellent leetcode skills is all you really need to get 250 TC fairly easily

In an area where COL means earning $120k-ish is poverty.

Fml, I make less than 85k

Flowcast lulll Oct 6, 2019

It’s the top 20% or so. No not every swe gets a big fang salary, but there top achievers do alright

Pfizer cqOD23 OP Oct 6, 2019

So what do you make? yoe?

Flowcast lulll Oct 6, 2019

She’s need more competing offers

Google qxghk Oct 6, 2019

She needs more yoe

Wayfair tAcq10 Oct 6, 2019

Keep in mind, below $300k is literal poverty in the bay area. You'll have to sleep under a bridge.

Cisco X.O.X.OO Oct 6, 2019

Oh please stop lying😂. I make $110k and live a fabulous life🙄

Dropbox dr0n3 Oct 6, 2019

Fabulous life under the bridge

Google qxghk Oct 6, 2019

What's your location and position? 300k is more common for Bay area swe. And high TC nowadays also results from stock market growth/bubble in recent years. RSUs can worth many more times of the grant value.

Cisco fqab23lv Oct 6, 2019

Just seconding what’s already been said. A senior engineer in a top company in the bay area makes over 🌲50. No PhD required. Being a sound, hard working, experienced engineer who prepares well for interviews is enough.

$300K and still renting.

I am playing the saddest song in the world for you, on the world's smallest violin 🎻 😢

Intel adbC65 Oct 6, 2019

I own, but it’s more a testament to $300K sounds great until an average house (meaning 2500 sq ft like the national average) costs $2M.
