How is life in Salt Lake City for a single person?

I’m a single Indian woman in my 30s and I have been living in New York for more than 12 years. Honestly I feel a bit tired with the New York life thingy now and I’m looking forward to move somewhere else .....Salt Lake City seemed like a good option with all the beautiful mountains (that I love). but I wanted to know how is the day-to-day life for a single person there ? Shopping, movies , concerts etc ? I don’t like cooking so is Food Delivery as conveniently available ( anywhere close to ) as in New York? does everything close super early ?

Seriously consider for one second that Salt Lake City will have anything similar to ny? There is less of everything. I’m in Seattle which is way bigger and famous and find it to be quite boring often.

Salt Lake City is gorgeous. I can’t say what it’s like living there but I’ve visited quite often. Housing is uber cheap; you could get a condo in DT SLC or a house in the Sugar House neighborhood. There’s plenty of things to do, just on a smaller scale. I recommend visiting for a week or two, in order to get a look. College and pro sports - the Utah Jazz are doing well. Arts and great restaurants. Park City. Sundance Film Festival. Universities. The drawback is it’s not as diverse as a larger city but it’s gotten better in the last 20 years. I grew up in upstate NY and traveled to NYC frequently. I live in a suburb of Seattle and work in Seattle. If I had my choice, I’d move to Salt Lake City but my friends are here and in Portland. Quality of life is much better in SLC and surrounding areas. 12 years ago, I was offered a job in SLC. I turned it down and regret that I did. If you go in with the idea it’s not a big city and you can’t make it a big city, you’ll be fine. It does snow a lot and the summers are dry and hot. You do get inversions in the winter. The airport is a hub, so you can springboard to many places if you need a break.

What do you mean by the quality of life is higher? Never been, so just curious.

I think you are looking for LA

Actually I don’t like LA 😕

I drove through Salt Lake once, stopped for lunch. Got bored almost immediately. Mountains are pretty however.

Goldman Sachs Please🥺 OP Oct 8, 2019

Why did you get bored ? Also people get bored on NYC too

Adobe mcfrood Oct 8, 2019

Is this comment serious? What if you just didn't stop in an interesting part of SLC? Lol

LinkedIn Wiener Oct 8, 2019

Can you find Indian people there? I find it impossible to live in a place where I am the only minority.

Goldman Sachs Please🥺 OP Oct 8, 2019

Fortunately I connect with good people irrespective of their race/culture 🤷🏻‍♀️

Avoid unless you’re LDS. Very weird LDS culture and few ethnicities other than white LDS couples with a bazillion kids....

That’s not true in SLC for the last 10 years.

PIMCO Typescript Oct 8, 2019

SLC is minority LDS. Meaning most are not LDS. As for the culture it really depends on your friends and who you hang out with. I'd highly recommend it to OP as long as she's OK with there being low percentage of Indians.

EA Anhejfoc Oct 8, 2019

Lol OP, my roommate thought about it too (also Indian woman in her 30s), but after going there for a weekend and came back she gave up on that idea. According to her, when she goes out in SLC, everyone in the bar is 22 and divorced with kids. The LDS tradition is real.

Nailed it

Uber meowimacat Oct 8, 2019

I wouldn't, it seems like a very conservative place geared towards LDS people, for a single person I don't think it's worth it. Maybe try Colorado if you want something more laid back

Salt lake sucks

If you are in your 30s and looking to get hooked then move to CA. Regular sausage fest there.

Not really ... happily single

Ok. But I would advise finding someone. Life is a lot more fun when shared with someone, TC and LC is meaningless.

Uber 2muchblind Oct 8, 2019

People are very nice in SLC, but don’t know how interesting of a place it would be for you.

Goldman Sachs Please🥺 OP Oct 8, 2019

After a decade in NYC I want to move to a place with mountains and natural beauty ... even if I don’t stay their forever .... it will be a good break from city life

Uber 2muchblind Oct 8, 2019

Oh yeah, it’s very flat and open, and you can get a huge place (space wise) for cheap. It’s probably the most different place to NYC you can think of, lol.
