Dear Blind community, please advice…. I have a combined 5+ years of experience working as front-end, full-stack, back-end, and devops engineer. Currently at Microsoft level 62 as a solutions engineer. My software dev experience revolves around javascript ecosystem (node, express, axios, react, react native, typescript, etc) automation experience using azure, aws, and google cloud, kubernetes, docker, terraform and ansible. I am well rounded architecting secure cloud infrastructures. And most importantly, I can figure stuff out by myself. TC: 250K Base: 160K Sign-on Bonus: 50K Living in Seattle area Should I be making more? Should I start looking for another job? Am I in a good place with my salary and company? If you could share level, years of experience, and TC breakdown for comparison would be great 😀
This is a bad idea.
What? Going to another company?
You’re doing just fine. Comparison is a thief of joy.
L62 too, but my TC is only 190K ;(
As a software engineer?
Yup. 4 YoE
I would say it is very good for l62, and even for l63
This is great salary
You asked… how is my salary? But then you didn’t even put your salary.. only your tc..
You know what I meant. Fixed it anyways
It’s pretty good TC. It could be better if you interviewed elsewhere. I left Microsoft due to the comp structure.
I have 1 YOE hand I have the same experience. I should be at $250k TC tbh
Are you sure joining bonus is for first year? Is usually divided over 2 years
That solid. My G offer 2 years ago was ~260k and I had ~5 yoe as well. With the huge run G stock has made and stacked refreshers I'm going to pass 400k best year. I got a bit lucky due to stock appreciation - bit nothing like some of the startups (still shocked by how much G has gone up, it was far less risky so I didn't expect this kind of upside). If you are good at interviewing or practice a lot at 5 yoe you can get senior engineer roles at places like FB and Coinbase and make 400-500k, but that's rough and you might not have good WLB.
Thanks for the input. Congrats on your stock appreciation. I honestly like the wlb I have here at Microsoft. Not sure if i would want to give my wlb up… but 400K-500K does sound good Would you say google has pretty good wlb?
