I might get an offer at United airlines in Houston for Senior Software Engineer. How much should I expect base and bonus? Btw do you get bonuses every year assuming performance is good? Also how is the work environment? Growth/promotion chances?
140-160k base plus maybe 10% bonus. Just a guess.
It depends on your team budget but you will not be impressed. The salary might be still okay right now but don't expect bonus or yearly increments more than 3%. I would say if you still want to accept the offer ask for more vacation time and other areas. United has unlimited *free flights lol they will use that perk to lower your compensation. I personally think that's not worth it.
Oh about growth and promotion haha! Just roll a dice! That's how they do it. The leadership is full of "individual contributors" mindset so if you can convince them that your promotion benefits their career you're all set. If not? Eh!
That's not entirely true. I have seen almost everyone in my team promoted in the last 3 years. Sometimes you sell!
Yep, it's not entirely true but it is still very very common. Many of the leaders left and currently most of the MDs, directors are recently promoted leaders who are self motivated and self serving. I do see a few leaders actually leading tho :)
$140 -150k base, standby ✈️ benefits for the entire family, fly with star alliance for about 10% of the fare, 10% of cash bonus and yearly RSU 5% (33% vested every year), 401k up to 6%
Environment - it depends on what team you end up joining. Some are running thin as a lot more in the pipeline but shortage of resources and a lot of people moving out as they get good offers outside (promotion or pay increase) market is 🔥
However, I do feel the base is lower than the current market standard. Collaboration is good across organization but I think remote work is taking a toll on people.
Lol, please don't blame it on remote work. From your assessment it looks like you have rose tinted glasses probably because you live in a different Corporate vip club and this is what you're able to see from your point of reference. A lot of this is coming from people's inability to report bad news to leaders because they know they will get blamed for it. But things are not good, there is a pitting teams against each other going on. It is obviously very subtle but now everyone is trying to 1up each other and that is creating such a climate of anxiety. I am not sure which rainbow land you're in, but let me know what's the org name and maybe I can join. :)
How much does L5 earn? To negotiate with HR
Don’t you get free flights? That’s all that matters
I haven't joined yet. But the "free" flights are on stand by.
