It is great. You will work on the IT department for Los Muchachos Taqueria.
Folks I know from that area of Texas sent their kids to private schools. Public Universities near there are pretty good, however. (UT & TAMU). Tech is growing there for sure, same in Dallas. I would say job market will be improving and continuing to grow into a larger tech hub than it is already. Wages will be lower, but with the right company, you could very a really nice salary there and your dollar will go farther. Property taxes are 2-3% depending where you live and if you're in incorporated areas. House prices are more sensible but rising, nothing like here though, you can definitely get much bigger house for the money there. People are, on average, fatter. They eat well, lol.
I'm a product of Austin area public schools. If you can afford a good private school it is probably better but most them aren't too bad. Unfortunately very segregated since the city as a whole has historically been. For private schools IIRC St Stephens is the cream of the crop in terms of both money you spend and quality. The magnet schools (middle and high school in AISD are good (I think the high school is top 10 nationally for public schools?). Westlake and Westwood are excellent public high schools as well (in eanes and round Rock isds respectively). Round rock isd as a while is supposed to be pretty good
As for fitness Austin is better than the rest of the state. Haha.
Jobs for SWEs are plenty. The good public school districts are Eanes and Round Rock - property prices are much higher in those areas and Round Rock is very far from the center (parts of Westlake are, too). May be too hot for you if you're used to Seattle. Also, watch out for the allergies, which are year-round for some.
Job market is great but do expect to be offered a lower base in many positions versus the bay area. Cost of living is substantially lower, so it evens out.
Great schools with solid job market.. but as per quality it's not same as Bay area... Horrible meetups, no good conferences.. it's average but you will get plenty of options to switch
