BTW It’s a Panasonic battery and It’s the same as any other lithium ion battery. I worked on EVs for 10 years. This is how it works: when you buy an EV you basically get 80% of the total battery capacity from day one. 1-2 years after (depending on use and the climate) the battery capacity would have lost 20% but you won’t see any difference because you were already using 80%. On the third year you will start noticing the difference. Can’t fast charge anymore and range dropping more rapidly.
Fun fact a battery is half the cost of the car if not more. So my advise don’t buy. Lease. Let somebody else worry about an old battery.
Helpful reply. Thanks!
Re: battery is half the cost of the car
Aren’t battery prices dropping rapidly? If OP buys a Tesla, won’t prices drop enough in 3-4 years to make it affordable to just swap the battery pack for $5-6k?

Good point. Tesla’s massive battery plant is aiming to reduce the cost and it will happen in the future but if you buy now you already paid a premium on a technology that will hopefully get cheaper.
