Couple of years ago Dropbox was the hottest tech company around with an abursedly high hiring bar and Michelin star restaurant grade food. How is it nowadays with the company trading at 70% pre IPO valuation? Is the hiring bar still that high? Are the super star engineers still there? Top of the market comp?
Hiring bar: somewhere between Microsoft and FNG, lots of emphasis on concurrency Super star engineers: stars are burnt out Top of market comp: somewhere between Microsoft and FNG
I was under the impression that pre IPO Dbx was harder to get into than F/G. My Facebook interview was much much easier than Dbx. Not many college students can answer a nontrivial concurrency problem on the spot cause most just don't expect it
Sure, except many students do expect it now this time and some can even find leaked questions online which, given Dropbox's much smaller interview bank, makes it much easier than F/G.
You can interview with us and judge the hiring bar yourself ;P
I did a few years ago. Onsite went fine but totally failed the follow up concurrency round. Not optimistic I can pass it second time around but also not sure if it's a good idea to join if the company is no longer growing
I am ready to be interviewed but no response to the job applications yet from Dropbox yet. You could help me in it? I have some decent understanding about concurrency too.
Company is definitely going down hill. In all likelihood its best days are behind it unless it reinvents itself, which probably won’t happen. Hiring bar has been dropping quite a bit in the past 12-18 months. Some super star engineers are still here, but they’re gradually leaving and few are being hired in SF (some are still being hired in Seattle and New York). Comp is still pretty good, but as you said our stock value has gone down.
Dropbox is an extremely arrogant company. During my interview there, interviewer was telling me that they are better than Facebook. This happened like last month. I felt as if interviewer was on weed.
Sorry to hear about your interview experience. I’ve def met really good people at dropbox in the sense that people are humble and good at listening. The overall business needs a major breakthrough but people internally do feel good about not being in the ads business.
To be fair, every company thinks they’re the best, esp during interview where you’re supposed to pitch
Good pay, good wlb, smart engineers are still here. Hiring bar is still high IMO. Intern acceptance rate was around 0.2%. Majority of people here are xgooglers. It’s definitely easier now to get in as L3-. L4+ are the real deal.
We are making a major push into the collaboration space with The New Dropbox being released our of beta later this month. The hiring bar is still extremely high, and the meals are delectable. Have you seen the new office in SF??
