I recently interviewed at Google for GCP and may be receiving an offer soon. What is the engineering culture at GCP like? I am a bit concerned, since I heard they hired Thomas Kurian from Oracle to run the place...
My spouse joined GCP and she is constantly stressed out by the insane work pressure. Culture seems more amazonian than googlish. Maybe others have better experiences.
Do they pip people now?
GCP is led by Oracle and dominated by people formerly from OCI, AWS and Azure. I don’t know if they pipped people but I do see people who joined GCP brought their teammates along. If you want to join Google, let your boss join and be a good boy lol
TK seems to be doing what needs to be done to have any hope of success in the space (focusing on sales, customer experience and reliability). how much stress that translates into really depends on the specific team. gcp is a huge org with a lot of variance.
I'll say that I've been at gcp a year and have been having a great time (though I work with partner teams sometimes which seem more dysfunctional).
I'm not surprised to hear that GCP's WLB is not what most Googlers typically enjoy, but for those who made the switch from AWS/Azure how does it compare?
Its what you make of it. Some weeks are more stressful than others. Overall though, waaaaay happier at GCP vs aws

Don't hate the player hate the game. So far he has been brilliant, haven't seen anything which would indicate that he is from Oracle. He has changed gcp in very positive way.
Good to hear that. Heard lot of exec hiring happened from oracle to GCP after he came. Did that impact a culture?
I dont care so much about how hes impacted the business side of things - how is the work culture in GCP? Is work life balance ok? Is tech quality good?
