Just joined Netflix and I’m being pinged by recruiters for HFTs. How long should I ideally spend at my current job before I start interviewing with some of these places and it doesn’t look bad on me. I love my job but some of these places are advertising 400k+ offers and I’m a bag chaser. TC: 235,000 YOE : 4 months #faang #netflix #google
Eh, HFT is overhyped on Blind. Your $/hour worked might be lower even if the offer looks better on paper, and it’s not the same environment as tech. Not saying you shouldn’t do it, clearly I did, just things to think about. GL with whatever you decide :)
most modest comment i’ve seen from someone from an HFT
Usually be like: Bro money yeah!!! 🤑 🤙
I think people don’t actually know about HFTs on Blind. I don’t know too much either, but I do know this. You usually work more and in person compared to tech. Your so called 400k is probably with a huge sign on bonus that most likely will turn into an “average” tc during 2nd year because your sign on is gone. Let’s say you actually survive at a HFT place for 6-7 years. I remember seeing some blind posts about people from like citadel tier firms wanting to make the jump, but they weren’t being offered the level or pay that someone in tech was. It might have something to do with the environment of tech vs HFT but switching might be painful. There are plenty of people at citadel level of firms getting paid like 550k after 8 YOE because they are just average there. I’m pretty sure if put a similar level of effort in tech, you could make that with better wlb and more problems spaces to work on. That being said, you’re young and if you want to try out that space, go for it and have fun
What is HFT?
HFT or not, just do it… interview and get the $$ if you want to do it Reality is: nobody will care or shouldn’t care. You have been at Netflix a very short period of time anyway… people come and go, many will apply for your job and life will go on. I don’t think anyone will hold a grudge on you because at the end you are looking at what’s best for you career/money and you don’t owe anything to Netflix and viceversa Also, knowing that other companies do and pay is the best way to understand the market in order for you to negotiate your next comp increase or salary somewhere else. With that said, with your short tenure, I’d advise to interview with the idea to leave if you find something good/better. I don’t think it will look good if you use that data to try to get a raise internally (in case you were considering it)
Normally I’d say stay there about a year. Then you can use a good excuse to left the first company. Btw if you still in Netflix would you mind give me a referral to the current opening position? I am a frontend engineer with 4yoe
No reasons to go to hft when you are at Netflix.
@OP, dm me
Two years is solid, one year at the very least. Also, just curious, why not grind at Netflix, get promoted to senior, and double that TC? Or does the promotion to senior not get you the standard 500K external hire TC?
Best part about netflix is that you can leave whenever the fuck you want. They don't hold you with rsus.
