I’m considering a role at FB that’s based in Menlo Park but do not want to relocate to the Bay post-COVID. I assume I’d join but work remote until FB tells employees they need to go back to the office. Beyond that, is there a minimum tenure required for new employees before they can request to go remote? FWIW I’m a product manager for AI that would be joining as L6/L7 depending on the offer. #facebook #wfh
Why don't you ask the recruiter?
I did. They said the role was Menlo based and not remote but said existing employees were given the option to move remote but didn’t specify required tenure etc.
You can request to go remote after two consecutive MA+ rating if you are IC5+. You salary will be adjusted based on COL.
I thought they let IC/E5+ new hires decide if they want to go remote right away? Maybe I'm imagining things though... OP should discuss this with their recruiter just to be sure
Yep but not every new hire. That’s the case only when the position itself accepts remote hire, and there aren’t many of these positions.
Why Was Zuckerberg saying about Facebook moving to being a full time remote company starting next year then?
He never said that ;)
Yes he did
I’m finalizing a Fb contract right now (IC6). My role was supposed to be in-office, but I had planned on moving out of the area before the requisite 2-3 performance cycles were completed (standard window for IC5+ to request remote). Talked it out with the hiring manager and recruiter and they were able to make it happen. Only potential downside is that it greatly reduces your TC negotiating power. I suppose it’s a question of priorities for you, OP. Money vs flexibility.
Can I DM you? I am expecting an offer after my recent onsite and also don’t want to relocate. They said they aren’t allowed to move forward with full-remote hires in my state quite yet and don’t know when that will happen. I don’t want to lock myself into moving my family or losing my job, so I’d love to hear more about your experience with this and how they were able to make it work for you.
Any updates on offer? I’m trying to understand how TC for remote employees compares to onsite employees
It's based on your level, not tenure afaik
What’s the policy for L6/L7? Don’t have the offer yet, but those are the levels I’d be considered for.
When you say L I assume you mean E? Anything above IC/E5 can request remote
