Some context. I’m in my late 20s and I’ve been with the same company ever since I graduated. I’ve got promotions and switched internally to different roles too so as to learn new skills etc. Lately however I’ve just been wondering if I should start looking. I see people around my age job-hopping every few years or so and although I like my current team etc, I do feel like perhaps I should start looking externally. Personally though I feel anxious that I might be doing this for the wrong reasons and end up regretting it.. and tbh I’m not sure what recruiters would think of when they see my resume with just one company there albeit for different roles. Thoughts on this? TC: 160k YOE: 7 #interview #recruiting
Are you getting constantly promoted? If yes, then it’s worth it to stay longer and grow as a people manager, then senior manager, then you can switch companies and join a smaller company as a director. If management is not the route that you wanna pursue, and you wanna be an IC, then there’s really no point in staying with the same company for too long. You’ll get bored and won’t learn/grow as much.
10+ years. 22 yoe, previous company was 9 years.
Doesn’t hurt to interview, especially if you’re not in a rush to leave. It can be a great learning experience.
6 years at Google. I keep getting promoted every 1-2 years and TC keeps going up, and my trajectory in an org I care about is good. I have no plans to leave at the moment, but would consider if a friend or previous co-worker invited me into a great opportunity with the same TC
